The Kansas City Chiefs will open the regular season against the Houston Texans on the road with a Week 1 matchup.

The Kansas City Chiefs are slowly learning what the 2022 regular season schedule is going to look like with the reveal of the first two games of the year. The latest schedule leak is the news that the Chiefs will take to the road to open the season with a trip to Houston to face the Texans in Week 1.

The Chiefs were rumored to play an easier game on the schedule to start the season given that they are playing on the road on a short week against the visiting Los Angeles Chargers in Week 2. That game was already revealed as part of a special broadcast package for Amazon, which will stream the league’s games on Thursday Night Football this season.

Given that the Chiefs have to play just four days later to start off the year, it makes sense that the league would serve up Houston, who should be a contender for the first overall selection in next season’s draft after trading away Deshaun Watson (and most of their other talented players).

It will be an interesting game for some members of the Chiefs who are new to the roster this offseason. Defensive backs Justin Reid and Lonnie Johnson played for Houston last season and now will face their former teammates in their first game in red and gold. The same can be said from the other side for defensive backs like Eric Murray and Tremon Smith and wide receiver Chris Conley.

The rest of the league’s schedule will be revealed on Thursday evening.
