The Kansas City Chiefs kicked off day three of the 2022 NFL Draft with the selection of Joshua Williams.

The Kansas City Chiefs came into Day 3 with six picks to make in the final four rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft and they’ve started their Saturday afternoon off with the selection of cornerback Joshua Williams out of Fayetteville State.

Williams is a tall, lean corner who stands 6’3″ and weighs 195 lbs. who flashed in the pre-draft season as an HBCU prospect with real pro potential. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.53 seconds at the NFL Combine and put up a vertical of 36 inches.

With the leap in competition ahead of him, Williams is a project for the Chiefs secondary who could pay big dividends as he adjusts and cleans up his technique and footwork. However, the skill set and frame are there for him to grow into a ballhawk on the boundary. It’s also clear the Chiefs are interested in rebuilding the entire secondary with the way the draft has fallen so far.

Veach has already added plenty of defensive help so far in this draft with the selections of Washington cornerback Trent McDuffie and Purdue pass rusher George Karlaftis in the first round, Cincinnati safety Bryan Cook in the second, and Wisconsin linebacker Leo Chenal in the third. The Chiefs also selected wide receiver Skyy Moore from Western Michigan in the second round as well.

The Chiefs still have a fifth-round pick at No. 158 overall and then four seventh-round selections before the end of the day.
