Defensive Backs

Coby Bryant, Cincinnati

Coby Bryant was one of the standouts at the Senior Bowl along with Oklahoma DT Perrion Winfrey. Bryant, who attended Cincinnati, was the starting corner opposite Sauce Gardner. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Gardner, he was one of the most dominant cornerbacks in this draft and ended up going fourth overall to the Jets, which forced Bryant to live in his shadow. Now that’s no longer the case. Bryant is a terrific cornerback who will shine at the next level. All he needs is the opportunity to show that he belongs.

Kyler Gordon, Washington

Kyler Gordon is one of the cornerbacks who fits into the draft’s third-tier in my opinion. Tier one consists of Derek Stingley, Jr. and Gardner. The second-tier is Kaiir Elam, Trent McDuffie, Andrew Booth, and Rodger McQueary. Tier three is Kyler Gordon and Bryant. Similar to what I said about Bryant, the same goes for Gordon. Gordon is a very talented cornerback who lived next to the spotlight on McDuffie. However, if the Chiefs could find a way to get both Washington products, they’d get a plus defender with proven ball skills to join the secondary.

Jalen Pitre, Baylor

The Kansas City Chiefs have a real need for some defensive back help. They drafted Trent McDuffie yesterday in the first round, and they did sign Justin Reid, but is that enough? Thornhill hasn’t exactly dominated since becoming an NFL safety, especially after the ACL injury, and with Mathieu gone, he’s taken his versatility with him. Jalen Pitre’s talent could allow him to jump in on day one and make an impact. However if not, he will still be able to learn behind a guy who understands how to adjust for the size concern. There is no wrong way you can go if you draft him which is why he is the perfect fit.
