Wide Receivers

Christian Watson, North Dakota State

Christian Watson is one of the more dynamic talents and unique skill sets in this draft class. Well, at least when speaking about a receiver. Watson, who was listed at 6’4″ and 108 lbs, also ran a 4.36 second time in the 40-yard dash at the Combine. Which, given his size, is pretty ridiculous. However, there are so many different elements to his game that shouldn’t go unnoticed. He is also a terrific route runner with good hands. He does need to develop the ability to run a wider variety of routes and his cuts are slow. He also doesn’t release super well at the line when faced with press coverage. Nonetheless, he should be considered a top target for the Chiefs.

Wan’Dale Robinson, Kentucky

Wan’Dale Robinson is one of the guys in this class that I feel gets overlooked. Robinson led the Wildcats with 104 receptions for 1,334 yards in 2021 Furthermore, everyone knew where the ball was going to go on big plays, yet Robinson still found a way to get open. He won’t make catches at that volume at the next level with a slight frame, but he’s a pro-ready receiver with exciting run-after-catch potential.

Calvin Austin III, Memphis

Calvin Austin is one of ‘my guys’ this year and if the Chiefs could land him, I’d be so happy. Austin, a receiver at Memphis, was one of the more dynamic playmakers in all of college football. In fact, in an article I previously wrote, I stated that Austin reminds me of a player very similar to Tyreek Hill coming out of college. Austin is one of the fastest receivers in the draft, and not only can he play receiver but he can be utilized in so many different formations and roles in an offense. Similar to Deebo Samuel in San Francisco. Andy Reid would have a hay day with him.
