2022 NFL Draft: KC Chiefs trade up in final first-round mock
By Grant Tuttle
Minnesota has a very nice roster and would likely love to trade back from 12 to pick more developmental/depth pieces in this talented class. Understanding that it is much easier to find teams that want to trade back than trade up, the Vikings grab the top cornerback left on their board, Trent McDuffie.
While McDuffie does not have the elite length and physicality of some of the cornerbacks in this class, he is the most pro-ready. McDuffie is a good tackler and coverage corner that can trail well in man coverage and function in a zone scheme. It would not be surprising if McDuffie turned out to be the best cornerback in the class.
(From Cleveland Browns)
The Combine sweetheart, Jordan Davis, finally comes off the board to the Houston Texans. Davis is a behemoth of a player with top-notch agility and speed. While many consider him a “boom or bust,” caliber player, Davis was very productive during his time at Georgia. He is a capable run stuffer with a high upside as a pass rusher.
Davis has serious power on the interior of the defensive line and will present an issue for guards at the next level. Houston can truly solidify their defense of the future with this addition if they also draft Ahmad Gardner at pick three. Davis would be an upgrade immediately and have the potential to be in the top-tier in his prime.
The Ravens roster looks very good top to bottom. If the team gets healthy, they may take the AFC surprise. Tyler Linderbaum seems like a very high-quality and high-value Ravens-type pick at 14. Linderbaum would step in as the starter at center on day one and is likely the best interior lineman in the draft.
Linderbaum is quick in pass sets and solid in the run game. In a quick screen and zone run running scheme that the Ravens use, he would fit perfectly. He projects to be a top-level center in the NFL and fills a position of need. This move makes too much sense for it not to happen.
(Projected Trade from Eagles)
The Seahawks loaded up on later picks from their trade with the Eagles in our projected trade. With their first pick, Charles Cross makes a lot of sense if he does fall to 15. Seattle seems to perpetually need a better offensive line. With a less-than-ideal quarterback class, Cross seems like the perfect fit and pick.
Cross is athletic and very good against pass rushers of all types. While there is still room to grow there, this selection would set up the next quarterback (whomever that may be) for success. The Seahawks would be wise to make this move early in the first and look to add talent on defense later.
