Max Mitchell, Louisiana Lafayette

Max Mitchell, a three-year starter for the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns, would be at the top of the list for tackle shopping on day three and beyond. Since his sophomore year (2019), Mitchell played a significant role in leading the Louisiana offensive line to three top-10 rankings, top-5 twice, and back-to-back Joe Moore Award semifinalist recognition in ’20 and ’21.

Mitchell boasts an athletic 6-foot-6-inch, 307-pound frame and is highly regarded for his leadership and toughness. The versatility that he displayed in splitting his collegiate career between right and left tackle is an asset, and the experience he gained in being a full-time starter for three seasons is invaluable.

Per PFF, he allowed a mere 13 pressures in 859 passing snaps at right tackle his senior year. That led to him being the highest-graded tackle in the nation in 2021. On most big boards you will find Max Mitchell between the 80 and 100 overall rankings. If the Chiefs tackle need isn’t addressed by pick number 62 and Tyler Smith is already off the board, that may present his best opportunity to emerge in the second round, bringing his recent success at Louisiana to Kansas City.
