Russell Wilson

Any list of scary additions has to begin with the shocking blockbuster trade that enabled the Denver Broncos to finally address their single biggest need of a generation at starting quarterback.

Russell Wilson is well-known as one of the NFL’s most talented passers and most decorated quarterbacks, but when compared to the total vacuum of talent under center for the Broncos in the last few years, he’s going to look even better. Last year it was Teddy Bridgewater and Drew Lock and that was likely the most talented depth chart in years. Past names include Brock Osweiler, Trevor Siemian, Paxton Lynch, Joe Flacco, and Brandon Allen among other equally talented players.

Those days are now over, which could change the way this rivalry has gone in recent years. The Chiefs have won every game since the 2015 season against Denver, the longest current run of dominance by any single team in the league over another. Denver knows they cannot do anything as a franchise unless they can compete with Kansas City, which is why general manager George Paton went all in on Wilson this offseason.

Wilson might be hitting his mid-thirties, but he’s been named to the Pro Bowl in 9 of his 10 NFL seasons and now he’s going to be reinvigorated by playing for a new team, a bright new head coach in Nathaniel Hackett, and a fan base who will fall all over themselves watching someone competent throwing the football.

By adding Wilson, there’s no doubt the Broncos just got a lot scarier as a twice-annual opponent.
