KC Chiefs bring back Austin Reiter for offensive line depth
By Matt Conner
The Kansas City Chiefs are bringing back a familiar face, per reports, to help bolster the offensive line with a re-signing of Austin Reiter.
Reiter is a well-known figure for Chiefs Kingdom since he was the starting center for consecutive Super Bowl runs, including one championship, as Patrick Mahomes and company brought the team their first championship in 50 seasons.
The Chiefs brought back Reiter on smaller contracts over the course of three seasons but allowed him to walk in free agency last year to upgrade at the position. The team signed Austin Blythe as security away from the Los Angeles Rams but ended up drafting Creed Humphrey to lock down the position for years to come.
The Kansas City Chiefs have further insurance along the offensive interior with the signing of a familiar face in Austin Reiter.
Reiter had a hard time finding a place to land following his departure from the Chiefs although he had a couple of opportunities with the New Orleans Saints, Miami Dolphins, and Los Angeles Rams. Only the former two gave him any playing time in the wake of injuries.
Reiter’s return to the team gives the Chiefs yet another lineman with starting experience along the offensive line to provide maximum insurance for injury heading into another season. The Chiefs already have Nick Allegretti and Andrew Wylie who can play along the interior with Geron Christian as the team’s new swing tackle. Together with Reiter, the Chiefs look loaded up front.
Reiter has played in a total of 66 games in his NFL career but the bulk of his playing time came in his three seasons in Kansas City in which he went from waiver claim to long-term starter.
