The NFL’s legal tampering period began exactly one week ago. During that time the Kansas City Chiefs have made a couple of big signings and a few quieter re-signings, but they still have plenty of holes left on the roster. While many of the big names in free agency are now off the board, there are still plenty of players available that could help the Chiefs. Just last week I gave you my initial list of targets in free agency and now it’s time to update that list.

For the most part, the Chiefs need to focus on their defense. The re-signing of backup quarterback Chad Henne should take a quarterback completely off the needs list. I’m also not expecting anything significant at tight end after the Chiefs brought back Jody Fortson. They may look to sign a blocking tight end (or re-sign Blake Bell cheap) but that would be about it. As I was starting this piece they signed offensive swing tackle Geron Christian, so I don’t see more offensive line additions in free agency either. I’ll touch on a couple of other smaller offensive needs that they may look to fill, but other than that it is really the defense where the Chiefs need to be focused.

It’s always possible that Brett Veach makes a trade to fill a need as well. He certainly has a history of doing that if he sees the need like he did when acquiring Frank Clark and Orlando Brown Jr. in previous seasons. However, while that certainly remains a possibility, this post is going to focus on players that are currently free agents. I’m sitting down to write up this list on Sunday afternoon, so it’s certainly possible that a few of these players could have been snatched up by the time you are reading this or that the Chiefs have added someone at one of these positions that remove the need to target anyone else.

That all having been said, let’s start by looking at a few offensive free agents that could still fill some holes for the Chiefs.
