The Kansas City Chiefs have given themselves much more breathing room along the offensive front with the signing of offensive lineman Geron Christian on Sunday. Per a report from Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson, the Chiefs have added the veteran tackle as their latest addition in free agency.

Christian will be entering his fifth year in the NFL and the Chiefs will be his third team.

Depth along the offensive line is becoming less of an issue with the latest signing of Geron Christian by the Kansas City Chiefs.

Christian is a big tackle at 6’6, 315 lbs. with a lot of experience over the last four years for the Washington Football Team and Houston Texans. He was drafted out of Louisville as a left tackle prospect in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, but he failed to grab hold of a starting role when given opportunities. He grew into the left tackle role in 2020 but lost that job permanently to Cornelius Lucas.

A year ago, Washington decided to release Christian after failing to find anyone who wanted to trade for the last year of his rookie contract. The Houston Texans decided to take a gamble knowing that Christian was labeled as a project coming into the league, and he started 8 games for them last season in a year filled with injuries outside.

Christian struggled with penalties last season (6) in limited duty yet only allowed one sack in 588 snaps played. He’s a strong pass blocker with room to get even better, but his run blocking grade from Pro Football Focus was poor last year (39.6). However, he gives the Chiefs an experienced tackle on the roster at both bookend slots who might benefit from a team with such an accomplished coaching staff.

Together with the signing of Andrew Wylie back for another year and the remaining presence of Nick Allegretti on the interior, the Chiefs have a very nice core in the second unit who can provide security for a long season.
