The Chicago Bears have officially signed Byron Pringle in free agency, giving Justin Fields a new target and Pringle a real chance to make a greater offensive impact.
ESPN reporter Adam Schefter has terms of the deal at one-year, $4 million guaranteed with incentives that can push it to $6 million.
For the last few years, Pringle has climbed the depth chart in Kansas City in one of the league’s most dynamic offenses. He went from a signing with the Chiefs as a rookie free agent back in 2018 to catching 42 passes from Patrick Mahomes this season for 568 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns.
The Chicago Bears are giving Byron Pringle his first home away from the Kansas City Chiefs with a one-year deal in free agency.
The Chiefs lost Pringle for his entire rookie season to injury but he’s made a greater offensive impact in each and every season after that. Last year was a true breakout season for Pringle and he enters the open market at the ideal time. What works against him, however, is the fact that he’s already 28 years old. it will be interesting to see how he does in another offense if he’s given more targets.
As for the Chiefs, they were likely prepared to lose Pringle in free agency. Tyreek Hill is expected to sign an extension soon and they have Mecole Hardman returning. Josh Gordon is also still on the roster along with Daurice Fountain, but the Chiefs should be buyers in the draft and free agency both to help restock the position. Demarcus Robinson is also still a free agent.
Pringle has 67 catches for 898 yards and 7 touchdowns in his NFL career so far.
