The Kansas City Chiefs will see a few of their own breakout players hit free agency this spring with the news that wide receiver Byron Pringle will be available on the open market for teams after his best year yet in the NFL.

The news matches reports that emerged early on Monday as well that running back Darrel Williams would also hit free agency after failing to work out an agreement before the new league year began.

FanSided’s Matt Lombardo broke the news that Pringle will be available for teams searching for an underrated wideout and it comes at the right time. Pringle set career-high totals in numerous categories, including catches (42), passing yards (568), and touchdowns (5).

Byron Pringle will hit free agency for the first time in his career.

For the Chiefs, Pringle has been an increasingly important player, but the team is likely to do a bit of a rebuild at the position after securing the services of Tyreek Hill for the long-term with a rumored new extension on the way. Mecole Hardman is entering his contract year and the Chiefs are expected to go shopping at wideout both in free agency and in the draft.

Not that anyone should rule out a return for Pringle to K.C. in the end given his familiarity with the scheme, his teammates, and growing chemistry with Patrick Mahomes in the team’s high-powered offense.

Pringle first landed with the Chiefs as a rookie free agent back in 2018 after going unselected in the NFL Draft following his career at Kansas State.
