If rumors are at least an indication of where a team is wanting to shop when it comes to NFL free agency, then the Kansas City Chiefs are clearly sitting in the wide receiver aisle in hopes of finding the next weapon for Patrick Mahomes in what is already one of the league’s most potent offensive units.

The Chiefs already employ two Hall of Fame talents in their prime in tight end Travis Kelce and wide receiver Tyreek Hill. However, the Chiefs could use another reliable wide receiver as a complement, someone who can consistently create separation and provide further depth knowing that Demarcus Robinson and Byron Pringle (and potentially even Marcus Kemp) are hitting free agency.

Last offseason, the Chiefs attempted to sign a couple of wideouts to deals on the open market but struck out each time. Still, it’s not surprising to see them linked with former Pittsburgh Steelers receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster once again.

The Kansas City Chiefs have been mentioned in conjunction with several wide receivers early in free agency.

Early in free agency, the Chiefs are reportedly one of the teams in on him this year, too, after he signed a single-season deal to return to Pittsburgh last spring. He chose a reunion with the Steelers over the Philadelphia Eagles, the Baltimore Ravens, and the Chiefs.

NFL reporter Jordan Schultz said the Chiefs are “still in” on Smith-Schuster but that other teams are also clearly in the fray, especially those with more money, like the Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Schultz is also reporting that the newly-released Jarvis Landry is on the Chiefs’ radar, although that’s true of a number of other franchises as well. The Cleveland Browns released Landry, who was due a heavy cap figure, after trading for Amari Cooper and the Chiefs were immediately mentioned in conjunction with a potential new home there.

Allen Robinson has been a favorite name for fans to throw into the hat for potential free agent consideration and they aren’t alone. NFL reporter Tom Pelissero spoke today and said the Chiefs are among the teams interested in working with him as well while also mentioning the Detroit Lions and Browns.

The latest name to earn some attention from the Chiefs, at least in reports, is former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Aaron Wilson of the Pro Football Network reports that MVS is a popular name with several other franchises, too, including the Las Vegas Raiders, Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, and Indianapolis Colts.

Basically, the Chiefs have been mentioned as an interested party for nearly every free agent wide receiver who would be ranked at or near the top of current free-agent options. There’s no way of knowing what will actually happen in the midst of it all, but the Chiefs are obviously shopping in one place right now.
