Former Georgia wide receiver George Pickens is plenty used to turning heads on the field. Now that he’s prepping for the 2022 NFL Draft, he’s learning specifically which teams have been watching him up close.

Pickens spoke with reporters from the 2022 NFL Combine in Indianapolis this week (along with hundreds of other NFL prospects) and spoke about the teams who have already indicated an interest in him by setting up a meeting/interview. The Kansas City Chiefs were on that list, along with the Green Bay Packers, New York Jets, and Jacksonville Jaguars.

When a player says he’s been interviewed by an NFL franchise before the 2022 NFL Draft, there are two ways to take it. Until the draft results are in and the three-day weekend event is over, it’s hard to know which side to err on.

The Kansas City Chiefs have shown interest in wide receiver George Pickens of Georgia as they prepare for the 2022 NFL Draft.

One side says that the Chiefs should be interviewing Pickens because they should be interviewing as many players as they possibly can in the time they have before the draft. The Chiefs have a clear need at wide receiver with no real youth investment at all, so it makes sense for them to survey as many prospects as they can at the position. That’s just called homework.

The other side notes that a team will invest its time carefully and meeting with Pickens displays a clear interest on the Chiefs’ part. And who could blame them? Pickens is a exciting target with excellent length, amazing hands, and speed to take the ceiling off of a secondary.

Without knowing just how in-depth the interview or meeting was, it’s impossible to know how much to read into the meeting. However it’s clear the Chiefs are doing their homework at the position and are checking in on guys with previous injury risks, as Pickens recently returned from a torn ACL suffered last March.

In two-plus years at Georgia, Pickens had 90 catches for 1,347 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns.
