The Kansas City Chiefs are not only where they don’t want to be, but they’re also not where they should be. As the most talented team that suffered a total meltdown just before a third consecutive Super Bowl appearance, it can be hard as fans to come to terms that our favorite team is sitting at home when the most meaningful football game of the season is set to be played.

While it might be tempting to just let the game come and go without paying much attention, the truth is that the Chiefs are still very well-positioned for the coming season (and beyond) with a Super Bowl window that’s as wide as it is for any other franchise.

With that in mind, reasons for pouting or disinterest should dissipate rather quickly knowing that the Chiefs have urgent offseason business ahead of them with a single goal in mind: to get back to the Super Bowl where they belong.

The Chiefs should watch Super Bowl 56 for some potential free agents to keep in mind.

Can the Chiefs make it back? They have every reason to believe they can with future Hall of Fame pillars in place like Patrick Mahomes at quarterback and Travis Kelce at tight end. They have the game’s most dangerous offensive weapon in Tyreek Hill, and their rebuilt offensive line should only get better in year two.

Speaking of getting better, the linebacking corps looks outstanding going forward with Willie Gay and Nick Bolton holding things down and other young defenders are in the fold with L’Jarius Sneed, Juan Thornhill, and Rashad Fenton around for another year or two. And we haven’t even touched on the single most dominant defender on this team in defensive line anchor Chris Jones.

For all of the talent on this roster, however, the Chiefs do have significant decisions to make with approximately 25 players scheduled to hit free agency in a month. That’s a lot of potential personnel losses and there are holes at numerous positions even with the talent held over from last year.

With one game left for all the marbles in the 2021 season, let’s preview the players who are going to hit free agency from the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams knowing they might in Brett Veach’s sights this offseason as future Chiefs. Here are free agents-to-be who are suiting up in the biggest game of the year.
