Tyrann Mathieu is out with concussion for Chiefs vs. Bills
By Matt Conner
The Kansas City Chiefs came into their game against the Buffalo Bills looking relatively healthy but unfortunately, they’ve suffered a loss in their Divisional Round game when they watched Tyrann Mathieu leave the field on the opening drive.
Mathieu is in the team’s concussion protocol and is out for the rest of the game.
Mathieu left the game early as the Buffalo Bills were driving down to open the game, where they would eventually score on a Devin Singletary touchdown run from the 2-yard line. Mathieu left to enter the blue medical tent and was then taken to the locker room.
Mathieu made the Pro Bowl once again for the Chiefs in 2021 and had 76 total tackles to go with 3 interceptions, 1 sack, 6 passes deflected and 3 fumble recoveries.
Without Mathieu in the game, the Chiefs will lean on Daniel Sorensen a lot more in the secondary to go with Juan Thornhill. There are also versatile corners who can step into hybrid roles, but there’s no doubt that Mathieu will be missed until he is back—if he’s able to come back at all.
More updates to come on Mathieu’s availability but it’s going to be tough without the team’s emotional leader and best player in the secondary.
