It’s far, far too early to count on anything, and even Eric Bieniemy has been here before when it comes to being favored for a job, but at the very least, it’s nice to know that the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator might actually have a good chance to finally land the job he’s been seeking for years.

Earlier this winter, we wondered if Bieniemy was going to receive the same sort of overtures that he’s received every year since becoming the Chiefs’ OC under Andy Reid. Given the team’s consistent success, it seemed unfair and even outrageous that he could go another full season without finding a team to lead when other names have been recycled again and again.

A recent round of odds revealed the The Draft Network’s Jamie Eisner notes that Bieniemy is favored to win the head coaching gig for the Minnesota Vikings. Other names on the list include Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll and former Eagles head coach Doug Pederson.

Eric Bieniemy is favored to win the Vikings head coaching job.

Bieniemy has been down this road before. Odds linked him as the favorite for the Washington Football Team gig before Ron Rivera was made available and ended up getting the job. In addition, Bieniemy has been linked to numerous head coaching opportunities in the past and failed to receive any official job offer even after multiple interviews with a franchise.

The Vikings recently fired head coach Mike Zimmer after eight seasons with the team. He finished his tenure in the Twin Cities with 72 wins and 56 losses to go with 1 tie.

It’s notable that Bieniemy started his journey as an NFL coach in Minnesota in the first place, when he was hired back in 2006 out of the college ranks to be the team’s running backs coach. From there, he stayed three more seasons and was even promoted to assistant head coach in 2010.

The Denver Broncos have also requested an interview with Bieniemy this offseason as well.
