The Kansas City Chiefs have been searching for some defensive help all afternoon in Denver in a game in which tackling has been poor, angles have been off, and the Broncos have continued to move the chains at will as if they weren’t the team whose season was officially over already.

Fortunately for the Chiefs, midway through the fourth quarter, Melvin Ingram came up huge on a hit of Broncos running back Melvin Gordon. The end result forced the football loose and rookie linebacker Nick Bolton took it the rest of the way for an 88-yard fumble scoop and score that gave the Chiefs their first lead of the second half.

The Broncos have been in control for the entire second half after already coming out with a 14-10 halftime lead. The Chiefs offense has been stalled on most drives against Vic Fangio’s schemes, especially given injuries to players like Byron Pringle, Tyreek Hill, and Darrel Williams. It hasn’t helped that the Chiefs’ defense hasn’t been able to stop Denver from running the ball and the Broncos have stayed ahead of the Chiefs throughout their Week 18 game.

Fortunately, Ingram and Bolton came together to create the game-changing play to provide some momentum when it counts the most.

For now, the Broncos are now back in the hole at home hoping to right the wrongs of a 12-game losing streak to the Chiefs. If Kansas City can walk away from Mile High with a big win, they will have this timely defensive play to thank for their fortunes. In this battle of the Melvins, it was Ingram who walked away the winner.

As for the end result, Chiefs Twitter, of course, went crazy.
