Coming into the 2021 season, the major project facing the Kansas City Chiefs’ front office was the rebuilding of the offensive line. Because of the need, the team was ready to sink significant assets into the renovations, which meant that a lot of attention was going to be placed upon the new names.

Fast forward several months, to the end of a successful regular season, and it’s clear that not only did the reworked line perform as hoped (or even better than hoped), but the new faces are also quite popular and well-known.

Orlando Brown was already a Pro Bowl tackle with NFL bloodlines and he was named to his third Pro Bowl after his first year played left tackle in K.C.  Beyond that, few young players have proven to be as popular this year as the rookie tandem playing inside in Creed Humphrey (at center) and Trey Smith (at right guard).

But what’s also been interesting to watch is that, like most offensive lines, the work in the trenches is also easy to overlook and even some of those involved in helping to make this remade Chiefs line so successful have been taken for granted.

We wanted to shine a bit of a spotlight on the Chiefs line here with a look at a few players who deserve more attention—some unsung heroes up front who’ve made this year’s success possible.
