Clyde Edwards-Helaire will miss second straight game for KC Chiefs
By Matt Conner
Head coach Andy Reid said the Kansas City Chiefs will go forth once again on the regular-season schedule without running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, this time against the Denver Broncos on the road, in Week 18 due to a shoulder/collarbone injury that isn’t quite ready to let him return.
Edwards-Helaire has missed a couple of games now due to the injury that initially knocked him out in Week 16 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. After going down hard on his shoulder, he came off the field and faced further tests on that Monday, which gave positive results compared to what it could have been. Yet the injury continues to keep him out of regular-season games for now.
The Chiefs are likely playing it safe until the postseason with Edwards-Helaire knowing the backfield is already in good shape with Darrel Williams, Derrick Gore, and Jerick McKinnon.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire will sit out this week with a shoulder injury.
Edwards-Helaire already missed a handful of games with an MCL sprain, a stretch in which he missed games in Week 6 through Week 10.
So far this year, Edwards-Helaire has 119 rushes for 514 yards and 4 touchdowns in an abbreviated sophomore season that hasn’t allowed him to really become a consistent and important cog in the Chiefs offense. Edwards-Helaire was the team’s top draft pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
In his absence, Williams will be the team’s lead back as he nears 1,000 yards from scrimmage for the season.
