Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is arguably the best player in the National Football League. He’s a former MVP, First Team All-Pro, Super Bowl champion, and Super Bowl MVP. Even with all these accolades, there is often a contingent season in and season out that focuses heavily on his less obvious negatives and lightly on his painfully obvious positives.

This season in particular Mahomes has been on the hook, by the nature of the position, for a number of turnovers on the stat sheet. This has given this contingent new life, with chants of “The NFL has Patrick Mahomes figured out!” ringing in their minds.

Here are three reasons the Chiefs Patrick Mahomes still has a chance to bring home the award.

Despite the fact that Patrick Mahomes has been lost in all the chatter regarding the NFL MVP race, given the events of this past weekend, there’s a strong argument to make he’s still amongst the leaders in that race.

Where things currently stand

The MVP race at this juncture is heating up. After 15 weeks of the NFL season, the top contenders are some familiar faces with a few not-so-familiar faces thrown in. 1. Aaron Rodgers, +125
  2. Tom Brady, +180
  3. Jonathan Taylor, +800
  4. Patrick Mahomes, +1200

Up until last weekend, Tom Brady looked like the clear-cut favorite. With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers getting shut out by a borderline playoff team, the debate has blown wide open. Here are three reasons Mahomes still has a chance to bag his second MVP trophy.
