Rashad Fenton, Lucas Niang will be ‘ready to roll’ for KC Chiefs vs. Raiders
By Matt Conner
The Kansas City Chiefs are looking very healthy headed into the final month of the regular season with the announcement from head coach Andy Reid that special teams contributor Chris Lammons as the only player who will be declared out against the visiting Las Vegas Raiders.
Most teams have a long list of injured players as late as Week 14, but the Chiefs took their licks early in the year in what has been a fairly healthy season. That’s not to say key players haven’t missed games—including defensive tackle Chris Jones, pass rusher Frank Clark, linebacker Willie Gay Jr., and cornerback Charvarius Ward—but they’re looking great at this point in the year.
The good news this week in particular is that both cornerback Rashad Fenton and offensive tackle Lucas Niang will both be “ready to roll“,’ per Reid, on Sunday. That news comes on the heels of a return to practice for both after missing the team’s previous win over the Denver Broncos.
Rashad Fenton and Lucas Niang sound set to return to the Chiefs after sitting out with injuries last week.
For Niang, the team hasn’t yet stated that he will take over his right tackle role after sitting out every game since the team’s Week 9 win over the Green Bay Packers. However it makes sense that if Niang is feeling good enough to play, that he should earn the start over Andrew Wylie. After all, the team could easily go back to Wylie if something goes wrong with Niang back in the lineup. It’s also possible that Kyle Long is finally ready to play for the Chiefs after practicing for the last month coming off of the team’s Physically Unable to Play list with a leg injury.
Deandre Baker filled in admirably for Fenton last week but the Chiefs will certainly be glad to have the third-year corner returning to the lineup. He’s taken a major leap forward in his development and forms a solid core with Charvarius Ward and L’Jarius Sneed for the Chiefs. Baker’s experience gives them further security with Mike Hughes.
With Lammons injured, the Chiefs are likely going to call up someone from the practice squad by activating either DiCaprio Bootle or Josh Jackson.
