The Kansas City Chiefs have their bye this weekend, which means Chiefs fans will have to find a way to fill that Arrowhead-sized void in their Sunday.

The bye week is a strange time for football fans. With the Chiefs out of action and no game to watch, the weekend feels empty, almost incomplete in a way. With a pillar of my weekend routine removed, sometimes I almost feel lost – with no Chiefs game on, what am I supposed to do on my Sunday now? Red Friday just doesn’t have the same vibe without a game coming up.

There are plenty of other things to do besides football, but the Chiefs are always special, and the weekend just doesn’t feel the same without them. But do you know what? As much as I’ll miss the excitement of watching Kansas City take the field, In a strange way, I also kind of like it. The bye week provides an opportunity to disconnect from all the wild emotions that a Chiefs game brings and just relax.

For me, I like to think of the bye as not just a week off for the players and coaches to recover, but a chance for fans to do the same too. We get a week off to relax and emotionally disconnect, a chance to recharge our fan batteries and prepare for the wild playoff push still to come.

The bye week gives Chiefs Kingdom a chance to watch a care-free weekend and recharge even as fans.

I’ll admit it, I am an incredibly nervous sports fan. The stress, the tension, the pressure – even watching from my couch it all gets to me. I spend most of my time watching Chiefs games anxious and on edge, I just can’t help it. So, when they have the week off, I feel like I can just take it easy and enjoy watching football.

Don’t get me wrong – I love watching the Chiefs play. The nerves, the excitement, the frustration and the jubilation – all of these emotions are a part of what makes sport great. But when they have the week off, I feel like I can just enjoy watching football without having to care about anything.

This season, the bye comes at a great time for Kansas City. After a turbulent, rollercoaster season so far, the Chiefs have finally started to really hit their stride with four consecutive wins, and they sit atop the AFC West.

There is an added bonus this season too, with K.C.’s bye coming right around the holidays. Not only did we enjoy a feast of football on Thursday, but there are also a bunch of tasty matchups this weekend too – and Chiefs fans can just sit back, relax, and eat it all up.

There is a smorgasbord of delicious games to enjoy on Sunday: Titans vs Patriots, Broncos vs Chargers, Bengals vs Steelers, Packers vs Rams. Heck, even the Texans vs Jets game is an interesting one. With Kansas City out of action, Chiefs fans can just relax, watch whichever game tickles their fancy and enjoy some care-free football without having to stress about the result.

Next weekend will be a different story. Kansas City are set to face off against Denver on Sunday night football as their push for the playoffs resumes. Chiefs Kingdom will be fired up, and I’ll be pumped and raring to go too. But at least for now, I’m looking forward to a nice, relaxing Chiefs-free weekend.
