Rashad Fenton injury update: Chiefs cornerback will have MRI on Monday
By Matt Conner
While the Kansas City Chiefs are happy with the final results of Week 11 and the 19-9 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, the team did suffer a significant injury late in the game to cornerback Rashad Fenton. Specifically, they watched Fenton go down with what looked like an ugly knee or leg injury in the fourth quarter. He did not return to the game.
After the game, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid announced that Fenton would require further testing on Monday, which means he’ll be undergoing an MRI. Test results will be forthcoming after that, but it might be a day or more before official results are made known.
While nothing is known at this point, it feels likely that Fenton could miss some time for the Chiefs—perhaps even a significant amount. However, it also might help that the team isn’t scheduled to play again until December 5 against the Denver Broncos in Week 13. That’s because the Chiefs have their bye coming up in Week 12, which means every player has at least two weeks to rest and recuperate from any issues that have arisen so far this year.
Rashad Fenton is scheduled for an MRI on his knee on Monday.
Fenton’s loss in particular would be a big one for the Chiefs defense. One of the most underrated stories for the Chiefs this season has been Fenton’s emergence in his third season for this defense. Fenton was a solid rotational corner in his first year who played mostly special teams as a sixth round pick. Last year he graduated to play 50 percent of all defensive snaps and gained some versatility in defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s’ scheme.
This year, Fenton has blossomed into a starting cornerback, although he doesn’t always get the official chance. He’s playing over 50 percent of defensive snaps and is able to hold down the boundary or slide inside, giving the Chiefs another versatile performer alongside L’Jarius Sneed and Charvarius Ward.
Fenton has 33 tackles, 5 passes deflected, and 1 forced fumble so far this season for the Chiefs in 10 games.
