KC Chiefs lose Jerick McKinnon to hamstring injury
By Matt Conner
The Kansas CIty Chiefs offense will be without running back Jerick McKinnon for the rest of the game against the Dallas Cowboys due to a hamstring injury that had him questionable to return in the first half. Now in the second half, the Chiefs will be down to starting running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire and his tandem partner Darrel Williams.
McKinnon isn’t used so much on offense, especially when everyone is healthy, but he’s an integral player on special teams and is a core four player for Dave Toub.
The Chiefs weren’t likey going to go with McKinnon too much on offense on a day in which they get Edwards-Helaire back from injury. CEH had an MCL sprain that first happened in Week 5 against the Buffalo Bills. From there, Edwards-Helaire would miss the next week or more before being placed on injured reserve. He came off of IR over the weekend but the team still didn’t say whether or not he would play. However, he’s been fully involved in the game plan from the outset.
So far on the year, McKinnon has played in all 10 games with little offensive output, at least on the ground, with only 7 rushes for 38 yards. However, as a back known for his pass catching ability, he’s also caught 10 passes for 81 yards on the year as an occasionally utilized target.
