Raiders lineman finds scissors in the middle of field vs. Chiefs
By Matt Conner
We’re not exactly sure what was going on in the middle of the second quarter between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Las Vegas Raiders. In the midst of a tie game of seven points apiece, the two teams lined up against each other and before the Chiefs could snap the ball, a Raiders defensive player held things up for a few seconds to identify something unknown on the field.
It turned out to be a pair of scissors. Yes, you read that right. There was a pair of scissors at midfield.
While we’re aware that, from time to time, fans might throw something onto the field or maybe something happens to fall in from the sky. Randy Johnson once threw a fastball that killed a bird, so all manner of crazy things can happen in the field of play—and we’ve not even mentioned the occasional streaker. However, this is the first time I’m aware of a pair of scissors entering the field of play.
It’s hard to imagine something positive was planned for the use of those scissors. Was someone on the field trying to trim the field here and there because it was a primetime game and left them sitting there? Maybe a Raiders player was doing some crafts and got some adhesive stuck to him and he carried his scissors onto the field? We don’t know.
What seems most plausible, given how dirty the Raiders have played in years past, is that someone had watched some regional wrestling circuit enough to think that bringing in foreign objects into the game for some dirty play would be acceptable. Feels like something Bill Romanowski would do. Whatever it is, we’re glad they found it before whoever brought it onto the field could use it for nefarious purposes.
And if you were also scratching your head when it happened, you weren’t alone. Here’s a sampling of fans watching the game who felt the same.
