If you’re looking for evidence that not every person deserves access to a phone and an internet connection, look no further than the weird fans within Chiefs Kingdom who are calling for a potential change at quarterback. Whether they mean for a single series or a longer stretch, the very idea of sitting Patrick Mahomes for Chad Henne is outrageous and laughable. Yet that’s exactly what some persons were saying during the Chiefs’ most recent win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 9.

Just to be clear: every single one of us is aware that Mahomes has struggled as of late. He currently leads the league with 10 interceptions after throwing only 6 last year and 5 the year before that. Some of his throws on Sunday were off-target, while the timing on some routes feels out of sorts. There are problems with communication and chemistry, and it’s almost like Mahomes has a case of the yips—like when Chiefs fans were trying to understand how Harrison Butker was struggling with extra points a year ago.

On Sunday, Mahomes threw for less yards than Packers rookie Jordan Love had in a losing effort. He also averaged a mere 4.5 yards/attempt, which is by far the worst game of his career. He’s never been in the 4s at all before now with a previous game-low of 5.04 yards/attempt back in Week 5 against the Buffalo Bills. The very fact that two of those games have come in the last month shows you that we’re all aware that something is off.

Some weird Chiefs fans on Twitter wanted Chad Henne over Patrick Mahomes.

We’re not the only ones. Andy Reid spoke about it at length in his post-game press conference and Mahoems did the same in his comments as he answered questions about the miscues. Some of the problems can be pinned on receivers dropping more catches, but Mahomes himself owns a big part of it by acknowledging that things just aren’t clicking and that there are issues to address.

That said, Mahomes is a franchise quarterback, someone with so much natural talent that 31 other general managers would love to have him on their team instead. He’s been to the last two Super Bowls and has won both a regular season and Super Bowl MVP trophy despite the fact that he just recently turned 26 years old. Even if Mahomes threw multiple interceptions in each of the next several games, no one should be calling for Henne. Such a switch would be ludicrous.

Yet that didn’t stop Twitter from speaking out.

Yes, you would, Terry. Even by asking the question, you sound silly. (Sorry but it’s true.)

Benching your best player in any sport generally doesn’t accomplish the desired goal of improving the offense.

If you think these are random takes that very, very few people are offering up, here’s a further sample of what Chiefs Twitter was serving up.

It turns out that being the most talented player in franchise history still isn’t enough for some fans.
