8. Tamba Hali, DE/LB

There is no question that Derrick Thomas is the best defender and pass-rusher in Chiefs history. There is a significant gap between the best and second best pass-rusher in Chiefs history. Tamba Hali has a very strong case for being the second best. Hali played above average as a defensive end early in his career from 2006 to 2008. When the Chiefs switched to the 3-4 defense under Todd Haley, Hali’s game elevated to another level and he improved when Romeo Crennel became his defensive coordinator.

Hali became one of the most feared pass-rushers in the NFL. He led the AFC in sacks in 2010 with 14.5. Hali was in the top 10 in sacks in 2010, 2011 and was half of a sack short of the top 10 in 2013. During his time in Kansas City, Hali played with multiple Pro Bowl pass rushers, teaming up with Jared Allen, Justin Houston and Dee Ford.

Hali was voted to the Pro Bowl for six consecutive years. Spending his entire career with the Chiefs, Hali finished with 89.5 sacks and had 33 forced fumbles. Hali has the second most in both of those categories with Thomas being the franchise leader. Hali signed a one-day contract this past offseason to retire as a Chief.
