Kansas City Chiefs

I don’t really know what to say here because it seems like it has all been said. The Chiefs were awful on Sunday. It was as if no one—and I mean no one—outside of maybe Nick Bolton and Byron Pringle showed up to play in Week 7. The offense was terrible, the defense somehow worse. I do not understand nor do I have an answer. This Chiefs roster is far too talented to be putting that on the field (whatever that was). The team needs to snap back to attention, focus, and be disciplined. They need to stop turning the ball over and quit thinking they will succeed on talent alone. Last I checked, you don’t make the Super Bowl based on reputation.

Outside of that, do I think this is a throw-away season yet? No. The AFC remains wide open. Do I think the Chiefs realistically have a shot at the AFC West crown? No, not really. The schedule we once thought was going to get easier looks like it might be surprisingly tough: Chargers, Raiders twice, Cowboys, Packers, and Bengals are all coming up. Do they have a shot at a Wild Card? Probably.

I will never count this team out, but I do recall Patrick saying if you take care of business in September, the rest of the season gets easier. They did not do that and now each and every game feels like it is a must-win.

Maybe the Chiefs will make changes and adjustments in advance of their Monday Night Football showdown with the Giants. (Which I will be attending!) I sure hope they do because I’m not sure Kansas City will remain standing if the Giants win. The city feels like it is on the brink of a mental breakdown over the Chiefs. If they win and get back to .500, maybe the city will take a collective deep breath…

Who knows, but I do anxiously await media days this week. Patrick said on 610 radio on Monday that he fully expects to play on Monday following the brutal hit he took. Thankfully it sounds like he is doing okay. I’ll be curious to see how Anthony Hitchens, Chris Jones, and Tyrann Mathieu are feeling following their various dings, but maybe their injuries give opportunities for younger guys to show their worth?

Regardless, hang in there. The season is long, we still have Patrick, and we still get to cheer for the best team.

Next. First-round targets for the Chiefs to consider. dark
