Armani Watts has good advice for anyone offering criticism
By Matt Conner
We’re pretty sure Armani Watts is busy enough these days with a role in the Kansas City Chiefs secondary, but we’d be up for reading regular advice from him as well if he ever wanted put together his own Dear Abby sort of column (dated reference).
On Tuesday, Watts took to Twitter to describe a hilarious encounter it sounds like he had (or at least we’re assuming here) when it comes to criticism. We’ll just let him tell the tale.
We’re pretty sure Watts himself would be among the first to admit the Chiefs defense hasn’t lived up to expectations this year. From coordinator Steve Spagnuolo all the way down to every individual player who has spoken to the media, everyone has stated clearly that they expect more from themselves and that they are focused on clearing up the miscommunications, turnovers, and missed tackles that has plagued the unit since Week 1.
However, the scenario here is a good reminder for all of us that if you’re going to criticize, make sure that a fourth-year safety is not in the general vicinity. It also reminds me of the time I complained to someone about my mother-in-law when she was somehow still on the phone after I’d set it down. So yeah, this guy next to Watts has company with at least some of us who have made similar errors.
The good news here is that Watts seems to be a high-road kind of guy. He didn’t record him or out him in any way, at least here in the Tweet, and Watts seems to be good-natured about the whole thing. In fact, he even offered up some consolation for the guy. Talk all the smack you want. (Just check your surroundings, first.)
