Former Kansas City Chiefs center Austin Reiter has a brand new home. The Miami Dolphins have reportedly signed him away from the practice squad of the New Orleans Saints, in order to help fill in the hole left by the injury to Michael Dieter suffered on Sunday.

It’s been quite an unexpected ride around the National Football League for Austin Reiter ever since he and the Chiefs decided to part ways earlier this spring. Rumors were swirling at the time around free agency that the Chiefs were interested in even bringing him back. Although it was also clear the team was going to bring in competition, apparently the two couldn’t work things out.

The Chiefs did bring in another Austin in the form of Austin Blythe, a former starting guard and center for the Los Angeles Rams who became a one-year signing to provide security at the position. However, it turns out the Chiefs didn’t have a need in the middle anymore once they drafted Creed Humphrey with their one of their two second-round selections. The prospect out of Oklahoma was an instant installation at the starting spot and he’s never looked back since training camp.

As for Reiter, he was forced to wait months in free agency before any real interest came his way (or maybe he was just wanting to wait himself for the right opportunity). Either way, he visited with the New York Giants and Houston Texans before signing with the New Orlean Saints, who had lost Erik McCoy to injury. From there, however, he’s sat on the practice squad after being active for a single game this year. Now he gets a chance with the Dolphins.

Reiter has served as the starting center for the Super Bowl-bound Chiefs in each of the last two seasons, so he brings plenty of starting experience and championship perspective to any team he’s with. Reiter has 33 starts in 60 games in his NFL career, mostly with the Chiefs and Browns.
