Los Angeles Chargers

This was a game I was very interested in. The Cowboys are my husband’s team and for the first time in recent memory, I actually cheered for them. Raiders fans might be the worst in the NFL, but Cowboys fans are a close second. The Cowboys don’t have much of a defense and just lost Demarcus Lawrence for the season. I did not believe that the Cowboys would pull it off. I was wrong. I actually anticipated this would be a high scoring game. The Cowboys have an admittedly great offense and Justin Herbert is the reigning offensive rookie of the year.

There were not the offensive fireworks I expected, but we did get an NFL first: a halftime score of 14-11! Fun facts you learn from Tony Romo and Jim Nantz. We also got this stunner from Herbert.

The game came down to penalties and turnovers. If you look at Chargers Twitter, they are all mad about the calls the refs made. Apparently when you only have 48 fans in total, you can’t get home field advantage with the refs. Ultimately, you just can’t win games if you turn the ball over and commit penalties. That’s exactly what happened to the Chargers on Sunday. I still think they are probably the second best team in the AFC West, but they will need to play their best game next Sunday if they don’t want to be in last place.

The Chargers (shockingly for a perpetually snakebitten team) left the game with no notable injuries. During the broadcast, Kenneth Murray looked to have suffered a significant injury but he returned to the game. I’m honestly in awe of the fact that the Chargers haven’t placed half their team on IR yet.

Next week the Chargers travel to Kansas City for the first AFC West divisional game of the year. Both teams sit at 1-1 and whoever loses will drop to last in the AFC West. Frankly, I would not want to play the Chiefs after the game they had last week because I think we might see some petty revenge Mahomes. I’m here for it. This should be a great showdown in the loudest stadium in the NFL.
