Creed Humphrey

For most of the last decade, the Chiefs have been used to a high level of play in the heart of the offensive line. Centers like Rodney Hudson and Mitch Morse, both second round picks, were ignored by Pro Bowl voters most years but the level of play was right there in line with the better centers in football, and free agency eventually made stars of both players.

After two years of subpar play from Austin Reiter and company, the Chiefs invested another second round pick at the position this spring and came away with Oklahoma’s Creed Humphrey, considered by many to be the most pro-ready center in the entire draft class.

While the Chiefs did also sign Austin Blythe in free agency as a former starter for the L.A. Rams, the reality is that Humphrey has been given a golden path to start since he arrived and he’s not disappointed. In 1,200 plays over his final two seasons at Oklahoma, Humphrey didn’t allow a single sack while protecting some of America’s best young quarterbacks, which should bode well for his pro future, too.

The Chiefs have listed Humphrey as their starting center and he held up well at the point of attack for the Chiefs in their preseason opener against the Niners. With further experience and chemistry with his teammates, as well as quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Humphrey looks like he’s going to be the next great center for the Chiefs.
