The K.C. Chiefs welcomed back tight end Travis Kelce to practice at training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri after watching their star miss a couple days due to tightness in his hips and back.

Kelce walked out of a practice session early on Thursday when it was clear something was wrong. He ended up sitting out the rest of the day and all of Friday as well. However, as Saturday’s training camp is underway, he’s returned to the field, a good sign that the tightness was only temporary.

Such injuries are going to be common for players returning back to camp after a long offseason. The Chiefs also got back linebacker Anthony Hitchens from a tweaked hamstring injury after a couple days earlier this week, a sign that bodies are adjusting to the demands of Andy Reid’s training camp after significant time away from the field. Even as players work out in the offseason, it’s not the same as being with the team.

In the wake of Kelce’s injury (and the placement of Nick Keizer on the NFI list), Chiefs rookie tight end Noah Gray has been featured more in the team’s offensive practices, generating serious buzz in the process.

Kelce needs no introduction as a vital member of this Chiefs team. He was immortalized in the Madden 22 “99 Club” earlier this week and should be expected to carry the offensive load for the Chiefs for another season after setting personal marks in every major offensive category last season for the Chiefs—his third first-team All-Pro season in the last five years.
