Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes was busy last week with an appearance at the American Century Golf Championship. The celebrity tournament features plenty of professional athletes, both current and retired, along with other familiar faces from popular culture. In the end, former basketball player Vinny Del Negro beat out Atlanta Braves pitching legend John Smoltz for the ultimate prize.

While participating at the event, Mahomes spoke with the media to give an interview and update on playing golf, the Chiefs offseason moves, the emotions after a Super Bowl loss and more. Fortunately, he also had very positive things to say after suffering a toe injury and playing through it in the postseason.

Patrick Mahomes says his toe injury has healed up great.

“The toe is feeling great. I’m out here playing golf and able to walk around the course. I’ve been running, cutting, jumping, throwing, doing it all. So I’m just excited to get back to training camp and have another chance to make a run at it and try to win the Super Bowl this year.”

During the Chiefs’ postseason win over the Cleveland Browns in the AFC Divisional Round, Mahomes suffered a head injury and the toe injury, which kept him out for part of the team’s close 22-17 win. After the game, Mahomes was able to suit up and lead the Chiefs to an AFC Championship win over the Buffalo Bills before losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV.

Mahomes had surgery on his toe after the postseason was over for the Chiefs, and he enjoyed a successful recovery and rehabilitation, during which he often said he was ahead of schedule. Now it’s clear he’s feeling just fine after also being cleared for spring practice with the Chiefs. Fans should expect to see Mahomes as a full and healthy participant in training camp when everyone reports to St. Joseph later this month.
