Manny Patterson, DB

Earlier this spring, the Chiefs held a rookie minicamp in which the team got to watch their most recent draftees up close. In the process, as they do every year, the team also invited several others to compete for the attention of coaches and front office personnel with prospect tryouts. This year, two such players earned contracts out of the blue: wide receiver Daurice Fountain and defensive back Manny Patterson.

Patterson is clearly the last defensive back on the roster, as he replaced Jaylon McClain-Sapp, who was himself a pretty forgettable player. Patterson has already had short stints with the Washington Football Team and Houston Texans in his NFL career after playing collegiately at the University of Maine.

The upside here is that Patterson might finally be healthy enough to make his mark after coming into his final season at Maine with preseason All-American status. He suffered a torn ACL and lost any and all momentum he had coming into the pre-draft process. The injury and subsequent recovery cancelled all pre-draft activities which meant Patterson has been forced to remind everyone of what he once was.

If you hear Patterson’s name as a head-turner in camp, it will be because he’s fully back and healthy and showing the physical toughness he displayed in the CAA before his injury.
