Former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Chase Litton was released from his latest post on the roster of the Ottawa Redblacks, a franchise in the Canadian Football League.

Litton began his professional football journey with the Chiefs after signing with them in 2018. Litton, who was a quarterback prospect out of Marshall, failed to get drafted despite leaving school early and signed with K.C. shortly thereafter as a rookie free agent.

For the next 15 months or so, Litton would go on to occupy a sort of developmental QB role over Matt McGloin, his primary competition at the time, for the Chiefs behind Patrick Mahomes and Chad Henne (and Matt Moore). The Chiefs typically go with two quarterbacks on the active roster in the regular season, which meant Litton was positioned on the team’s practice squad most of the time.

After Litton’s rookie campaign ended back in 2018, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach re-signed him to a reserve/futures deal that kept him around for the majority of the next offseason as well. However, the Chiefs decided to stick with Vanderbilt’s Kyle Shurmur as the developmental arm on the roster for the next year.

After the Chiefs released him before active roster cuts were due before the 2019 season began, the Jacksonville Jaguars signed him for a short stint. He lasted less than two months with the Jags and found himself as part of the short-lived XFL heading into 2020.

Litton signed with Ottawa back in March in hopes of being able to head into the season with the Redblacks when the CFL resumes in August. Unfortunately he’s now a free agent once again after the team made several roster moves this week.
