KC Chiefs: Three free agent targets for the offense
Larry Fitzgerald
This is likely a longshot, and I’m not even sure he’s the type of player who would make a move like this even if the Chiefs wanted him (which I’d be a little surprised about). Larry Fitzgerald is 37 years old and saw a significant drop in productivity even as he was gifted with a better quarterback.
This obviously isn’t a knock on Fitzgerald, as he’s arguably one of the greatest wide receivers of this generation. It’s simply a statement that his age is probably starting to catch up to him.
2020 was by far the least productive season of his career as he faded into an afterthought in the Arizona Cardinals offense. Even if he were still a productive player, and the Chiefs really wanted to sign him, I’d wager it’s highly unlikely he’d make the move.
It’s fairly uncommon for players who play nearly two decades with the same franchise to uproot for a season or two to go play in another city. It’s far more common, especially with players like Fitzgerald who have made a lot of money, for them to retire.
While this type of move isn’t unheard of, and his contract price would be an appealing one, my guess is this is not the type of move the Chiefs front office would make. That said, if other better options dry up and there’s some reason to kick the tires.
