It has likely been a long spring for Bashaud Breeland, along with other free agents who remain healthy and available as they hope to extend their NFL careers another season or more. The former K.C. Chiefs cornerback has drawn a bit of interest from NFL teams thus far, but things seem to be heating up at this point. Hopefully, Breeland will soon find an offer he considers fair in the coming days, and perhaps it will come from the latest team interested in signing him: the Chicago Bears.

The Bears are reportedly interested in Breeland to help round out the cornerback competition, and the news comes shortly after Breeland also spent time on a visit with the Detroit Lions. That makes the NFC North the likeliest destination for Breeland at this stage.

The Chiefs have also reportedly maintained an unspecified level of interest in bringing back Breeland for another year after signing him to back-to-back one-year deals. However, if Breeland wants a reunion, there’s clearly something in the way of the relationship at present. Perhaps it’s the proposed pay rate or the level of security in another one-year deal? No one on the outside can know and it’s all conjecture at this point.

What’s not a guess is that Breeland is a talented corner who plays his opposing receivers tough and physical. For the Chiefs, who demand sticky coverage from their corners, he’s a solid defender who challenges the receiver from the point of release. Last season, he deflected 9 passes and intercepted 2 in 11 games for the Chiefs. Per Pro Football Reference, Breeland has also allowed a 50 percent completion rate or lower in each of the last two seasons for K.C.

A former fourth round pick for Washington, Breeland, who is 29, has also played for the Green Bay Packers in his seven-year NFL career. He has 14 career interceptions.
