If Brett Veach is interested in leaping back up into the 2021 NFL Draft, there’s still an entire round of selections waiting to be made, but at this point, the K.C. Chiefs are officially done now that the team has used its sixth round choice on offensive lineman Trey Smith.

Smith has already taken it personally that he’s dropped to day three after expecting to be taken long before this point in the draft. Most draft analysts definitely had Smith going higher than the bottom of the sixth round, but that’s why Veach struck here with another selection on an offensive lineman. NFL.com had him rated as a third round prospect.

Smith has a massive frame at 6’5, 321 lbs. and is strong as an ox. He’s got starting experience at the highest levels of college football and has been celebrated for his leadership, work ethic, and intelligence. The downside here is a disconcerting medical history when blood clots in his lungs, but he’s played plenty of football since then and he’s done so all over the line—from left tackle to right guard.

The Chiefs are going to head into the preseason with some tremendous battles ahead for playing time and even roster spots along the offensive line. It’s an incredible turnaround from last season when the Chiefs were thin along the offensive front due to injuries and opt outs.

With their previous five selections, the Chiefs grabbed Missouri linebacker Nick Bolton and Oklahoma center in the second round, Florida State defensive end Josh Kaindoh in the fourth, and both Duke tight end Noah Gray and Clemson wideout Cornell Powell in the fifth.
