The K.C. Chiefs are officially bringing back wide receiver Byron Pringle for another season after the wide receiver signed the tender extended to him by the franchise earlier this offseason. His agents reported the news on Twitter on Thursday, shortly before the beginning of the 2021 NFL Draft, with a celebratory post.
The Chiefs tendered an offer to Pringle earlier this year which meant they had the right of first refusal for any other contract offer given to Pringle by another team. By signing the tender and returning the Kansas City, Pringle has a nice raise for himself in the form of a one-year deal worth $2.13 million. According to Spotrac, Pringle has earned nearly $1.7 million in three seasons in the NFL to date.
Pringle, who will turn 28-years-old this coming season, is a bit older for a player on the rise, but the front office has been very clear about their hopes to see Pringle develop more as an offensive weapon for the Chiefs in 2021. Their willingness to pay him certainly backs up the praise bestowed on him by Brett Veach and others within the organization as he hopes to become more than a dynamic special teams contributor.
Pringle first signed with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of Kansas State back in 2018 but was lost for the entirely of his rookie season on injured reserve. He ended up making the team in 2019 and played in all 16 games, a testament to his hard work and potential as a former rookie free agent to make the active roster and earn that much playing time. Last year, Pringle had 13 catches on 17 targets on offense for 160 yards and 1 touchdown. He also had a 102 yard return for a touchdown as a kick returner.
