Tight End

I debated if I should profile any tight ends in this post or not. While I would love to see the Chiefs add one of these guys in the draft, the Chiefs just haven’t shown much interest in making a serious investment at the second tight end spot during Andy Reid’s tenure. That having been said, these three guys could all be great additions to the offense.

Pat Freiermuth – Penn State

While Pat Freiermuth may not be quite worthy of his “Baby Gronk” nickname, he is a fantastic tight end prospect and the player on this list that is probably most likely to be off the board when KC makes their first pick. If he is available, he would make a scary one/two punch with Travis Kelce. Freiermuth is 6-foot-5 and 251 pounds and is both a formidable receiving weapon and capable inline blocker. He would give the Chiefs someone that could lineup inline and block as second tight end on rushing plays or split out wide and be huge matchup problem on passing plays. The combo of Freiermuth and Kelce in an Andy Reid/Patrick Mahomes offense is enough to keep defensive coordinators up at night.

Brevin Jordan – Miami

Brevin Jordan isn’t quite as tall as “Baby Gronk”, but he’s a powerfully built 6-foot-2 and 247 pounds. He was a major receiving weapon at Miami, but is only average as a blocker right now. He would offer similar upside as another passing weapon at the second tight end slot as Freiermuth, but would need a little more work on his run blocking, but the effort and aggressive nature is there. With his build, the Chiefs might also consider using him as a hybrid fullback/tight end. Regardless of how the Chiefs use him he would be an interesting toy for Andy Reid to play with.

Tommy Tremble – Notre Dame

I’m not going to hide my bias here. I really want the Chiefs to draft Tommy Tremble in the second round. Tremble is one of the most satisfying blockers to watch in all of college football. Notre Dame used him as both a fullback/h-back type and tight end in college. With the departure of Anthony Sherman, adding a player like Tremble could make a lot of sense for K.C. Plus, Tremble may be raw as a pass catcher, but he has shown good speed and hands in his limited opportunities in that role and could develop into a bigger offensive weapon over time. If you haven’t already, go to YouTube and type in his name and watch his blocking for just 30 seconds. I guarantee you will be sold. He’s that good.

Speaking of blocking, while the Chiefs have sured up their left tackle situation, they still may be on the market for some long term solutions on the interior of their line.
