4. Starts Chiefs Career Perfect Through Nine Games

The 2013 season was a new beginning for the Kansas City Chiefs organization and the fans. After a horrific 2012 season, finishing at 2-14 and having the first pick in the draft, the arrival of Andy Reid and Alex Smith was thought to bring some winning to Kansas City. The results came in sooner and better than the Chiefs could have hoped for. Working to find a way to turn 2-14 to a solid record, Smith and the Chiefs came out as hot as they could get.

Smith started off his Chiefs career with an easy 28-2 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars and didn’t stop there. For the following eight weeks, Reid and Smith brought Chiefs fans a new way of watching football, that actually included a victory once the game was over. The Chiefs proceeded to win the next eight games of the season, including close calls against the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, and the Cleveland Browns, giving the Chiefs a 9-0 record heading into a highly anticipated matchup, against the hottest offense in football at the time, the Denver Broncos, led by Peyton Manning.

Sadly, that’s where the streak ended up for the Chiefs, but it didn’t stop the new, obvious change for the team. Reid and Smith brought to the team a new sense of winning and experience. What was once lacking in the previous quarterbacks in Kansas City, Alex Smith had. He was someone able to lead the Chiefs through stretches of quality play, not finding ways to hand away games to the opponents. The season ended in a shocking and saddening loss in the playoffs to the Indianapolis Colts, but Chiefs fans were given a new direction to watch the team. This would be the start of five seasons where Alex Smith would continue to keep the Chiefs as a winning team, something the team had lacked many years prior.
