The K.C. Chiefs are bringing back offensive lineman Mike Remmers for another season, and the versatile veteran made it official today with an Instagram post showing the contract signing. He also made it clear that he knows how to celebrate very well.

Mike Remmers will likely be able to afford a lot of burnt ends and/or ribs with that new contract, and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate the occasion ourselves. Maybe if you’re lucky enough to go when he’s there, he’ll treat some others to join him.

As for the actual impact of the deal, the Chiefs are getting back a valuable contributor up front who is able to step in and help at several positions, a running theme of this year’s imports along the offensive front. Remmers was signed last year to serve as a sixth man of sorts as the team allowed Cam Erving to leave in free agency. Remmers responded with excellent work up front after Kelechi Osemele went down at left guard in Week 5and then at right tackle in place of Mitchell Schwartz in Week 6.

Remmers remained outside as the starter at right tackle for two thirds of the regular season and another two postseason games before switching to left tackle to take over for Eric Fisher. The Super Bowl performance wasn’t so great, as we all remember, but the line overall looked pitiful and the Buccaneers were the NFC champs for good reason. The issues that arose in the Super Bowl should not overshadow the greater body of work we saw from Remmers on the season. The Chiefs certainly realize the value and have brought him back again.

The Chiefs have already added Joe Thuney and Kyle Long to the mix up front as well, and both players are also capable of playing multiple positions. Given that the Chiefs have Lucas Niang and Laurent Duvernay-Tardif also returning after a year away, there are a lot of new options up front with more acquisitions still to come.
