Eric Fisher and/or Mitchell Schwartz

A potential release of Eric Fisher or Mitchell Schwartz would count as a huge surprise. These two players may be essential to another Chiefs’ Super Bowl run, and given the current information on both, I would not expect either to be cut. However, both players are dealing with murky health situations and they are both top five on the team in potential cap savings, with Fisher at $12 million and Schwartz at $6 million.

After watching that Super Bowl, suggesting that the Chiefs may cut either (or both) of their two Pro Bowl offensive tackles is downright vertigo-inducing. But there is a chance that one or both players end up in a scenario where they will not be healthy enough to contribute until much later in the season. That kind of news would certainly leave the Chiefs with a difficult decision.

Fisher (30 yrs.) and Schwartz (32 yrs.) are both set to be free agents after 2021, so evaluating their worth to the team falls squarely on their ability to produce this year alone. We should all rest easy though. If these players are healthy, they absolutely will be on the team. Further, both player’s cap savings do not change after June 1st, meaning there is plenty of time to monitor their recoveries, while still being able to move on from them if absolutely necessary.
