KC Chiefs add local wide receiver prospect Dalton Schoen

The Kansas City Chiefs have added another wide receiver prospect to the offseason roster, this one with some local ties, with the signing of Dalton Schoen.
Schoen likely reached an agreement with the Chiefs via a reserve/futures deal which means he won’t officially join the Chiefs roster until the new league year begins next month.
Schoen starred at Kansas State as recently as 2019 before he was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Los Angeles Chargers. While at K-State, Schoen caught 92 passes for 1,569 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns in three years of Big 12 play, an impressive career after arriving as a walk-on and climbing the depth chart. Before that, he was a star wideout for Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park.
Schoen was Honorable Mention All-Big 12 during his senior campaign and helped himself during pre-draft season by running the 40-yard dash in times ranging from 4.44 to 4.48 seconds. Given his reported 35-inch vertical leap as well, Schoen’s athleticism earned him a post-draft look from the Chargers.
With the Chiefs, Schoen gets a chance to extend his dream of making it in the NFL while staying close to home. He’s also hitting the Chiefs at the right time. While any signing like this is an obvious long shot to make the active roster when the regular season hits, Schoen has done the walk-on routine before. The Chiefs are also likely to go into next season with some new faces at the position as Sammy Watkins, Demarcus Robinson and more hit free agency.
The Chiefs have signed WR Dalton Schoen.
Of course, young wideouts like Maurice French, Jody Fortson, Gehrig Dieter, Tajae Sharpe, Byron Pringle and more are going to be jostling for those same positions, but Schoen is now clearly in the mix with a very real chance to make an impact.
