Patrick Mahomes will have ‘very light practice’ for Chiefs on Wednesday

The Kansas City Chiefs were reportedly hopeful that they would see Patrick Mahomes at practice on Wednesday, and it’s becoming clear they will get just that in the form of a “very light practice,” per NFL reporter Ian Rapoport.
As the Chiefs prepare to host the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship game at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, all eyes in Chiefs Kingdom are on the status of Mahomes going forward. Against the Cleveland Browns last Sunday, the Chiefs not only saw Mahomes deal with a foot injury early in the game, but they ultimately watched him take a hit from linebacker Mack Wilson that forced him to leave the game.
After the game, Mahomes was placed in the league’s concussion protocol, but others have called it a neck/nerve injury instead. Whatever the official diagnosis, it’s clear that Mahomes’ ability to play on Sunday is yet unknown even as the reports emerge about cautious optimism on the part of the team.
If the Chiefs were forced to play without Mahomes, backup quarterback Chad Henne would be the man under center for K.C. While he played well in relief of Mahomes on Sunday and also showed he can move the chains in Week 17, the Bills would certainly be favored to win on the road and advance to the Super Bowl for the first time in nearly three decades.
The Chiefs will practice on Wednesday with two more practices this week. Upcoming media sessions with the Chiefs staff, most notably head coach Andy Reid, will give fans a better idea of what to expect and how Mahomes is coming along in his hopes to play on Sunday.
