Clyde Edwards-Helaire leaves with hip/leg injury for Chiefs vs Saints
By Matt Conner
The Chiefs have lost Clyde Edwards-Helaire to injury during their game against the Saints.
Despite their win on Sunday over the New Orleans Saints, the Kansas City Chiefs suffered a big loss in Week 15 when they watched rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire carried off the field with a hip/leg injury in the fourth quarter.
As the Chiefs were hoping to run down the clock and get into the end zone to put the game away against the Saints, Edwards-Helaire received the handoff and took it for a four-yard gain to the five-yard line of the Saints, close to another touchdown for the Chiefs. Unfortunately he would not be able to get back up with what looked like a serious injury.
Edwards-Helaire was the first-round choice of the Chiefs in the 2020 NFL Draft and the first running back selected overall. The Louisiana State product was a well-rounded back who came in with a lot of hype entering the Chiefs system, and he quickly became an important part of the team’s offense.
During the game Edwards-Helaire had 14 carries for 79 rushing yards and 1 catch for 4 receiving yards. On the season, he has 181 total carries for 823 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns, He has another 36 catches for 297 yards and 1 receiving score.
Without Edwards-Helaire available for the time being, the Chiefs are fortunate to have Le’Veon Bell as a back who can serve as a primary option in the backfield. Darrel Williams will also likely earn considerably more reps moving forward if Edwards-Helaire is forced to miss time. Darwin Thompson is also on the active roster.
