The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed Dustin Colquitt to the practice squad.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made a couple practice squad additions on Friday in order to bolster the team’s practice squad, and one was  recently the longest-tenured member of the Kansas City Chiefs roster earlier this year: veteran punter Dustin Colquitt.

On Friday, the NFL’s transaction wire showed that both Colquitt and long snapper Garrison Sanborn (longtime snapper for the Buffalo Bills) were signed by Tampa Bay which gives the team more competition and security on special teams heading toward the postseason.

One of the biggest decisions made by the Chiefs this offseason was what to do at punter given how long Colquitt had been with the franchise. Drafted back in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft, Colquitt had become a fixture on special teams for the Chiefs over the years with an incredible 15 seasons with the team. His tenure ended with the Chiefs’ only Super Bowl run of the last 50 seasons.

After the season ended, Colquitt made it clear that he wanted to remain with the team for one more season. After his release was announced, Colquitt stated that he was surprised by the move and that was ready to retire with just one more year. However, the Chiefs decided to move on and instead went with undrafted free agent Tommy Townsend, who was an impressive prospect out of the University of Florida.

Since his release, Colquitt has attempted to latch on with the Pittsburgh Steelers and now the Bucs. His stint in Pittsburgh lasted only five games before he was released again.

Besides being a Super Bowl champion, Colquitt was a two-time Pro Bowl performer for the Chiefs with over 51,000 punting yards in his career.
