Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs traveled to Miami for the second time this season. Their first trip went ok so the hope was that this second trip would be as well. This game was a puzzler to me. Patrick Mahomes is apparently a human being? The Dolphins defense is really good, but the unit was missing some players. Despite that, the Chiefs still saw three interceptions from their unicorn.

The Chiefs slow start saw an explosion of points followed by another stalemate. This game never felt like the Chiefs weren’t going to win, but it never felt comfortable. Credit to Brian Flores for a great defensive plan. Ultimately, though, the combination of Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce overwhelmed. Mahomes still threw for almost 400 yards. This game was too sloppy and they probably should have lost, but when you are the best, a B- game is still going to win.

Ultimately, this game allowed the Chiefs to clinch the division, and with the Steelers loss to the Bills, gave them first place in the AFC on their way to a bye. The Chiefs control their destiny and look like they are set up for a great postseason run.

Of course, they will need to overcome a couple hurdles on the way. First, Mike Remmers left with a back injury. Not ideal given how depleted the line currently is. The Chiefs made some roster moves that cleared two spots which makes me think they have some forthcoming news that might fix that issue. It remains to be seen.

The other hurdle is their upcoming challenge of the Saints. It is still unclear if Drew Brees will make his return but it is trending towards no. If he doesn’t play (and frankly even if he does) the Chiefs will face a tough defense but an ok offense. I think ultimately this is a statement game from the Chiefs where they remind everyone why they are the best team.

Game time is 3:25 p.m.
